At the Centre for Community Health and Environmental Change (CCHEC), community health is a core pillar of our work. We believe that healthy communities are the foundation for sustainable development. Our approach is holistic, inclusive, and centered on empowering individuals and families to take charge of their own health.
We conduct regular outreach programs targeting children living with disabilities. These include rehabilitation services, occupational therapy, nutritional support, and caregiver education—delivered through coordinated field visits and follow-ups.
We implement community-led initiatives to improve access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH). This includes building and rehabilitating water sources, promoting toilet construction, and facilitating sanitation behavior change through Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS).
We support schools with health-related activities such as menstrual hygiene management, deworming, school feeding, and the establishment of vegetable gardens. These programs improve nutrition, reduce absenteeism, and promote lifelong healthy habits.
We produce and promote the use of biodegradable sanitary pads made from locally available materials. This initiative not only addresses menstrual hygiene challenges but also empowers local women through skills training and income-generating opportunities.
Our team conducts community sensitization sessions on topics such as maternal and child health, family planning, disease prevention, nutrition, and hygiene. We use participatory methods including home visits, group discussions, and school-based activities.
We collaborate with health workers and community volunteers to improve access to essential services such as antenatal care, immunization, and child nutrition, with a strong focus on prevention and early intervention.
We work closely with local structures to train, mentor, and support Community Health Promoters (CHPs), enhancing their capacity to deliver primary health services and refer clients to the appropriate facilities.
Recognizing the link between health and environment, we integrate environmental actions—such as tree planting and waste management—into our health programs to create healthier, more resilient communities.
CCHEC is committed to advancing equitable access to health services, strengthening local health systems, and building community resilience. Through continuous engagement, innovation, and partnerships, we strive to ensure that every individual has the opportunity to live a healthy and dignified life.
